World Maps
The Causeway Coast & Glens region of Ireland has posted signs along a unique 120-mile trail of scenic drives and attractions which, taken together, make up the “Essential Irish Journey.”
The route takes visitors from the outskirts of Belfast on one of Europe's most scenic journeys. It features picturesque fishing villages, rugged cliffs, three designated areas of outstanding natural beauty, and the UNESCO World Heritage Site at the Giant's Causeway. Several small circular tours include Slemish Mountain, the Lower Bann Valley, Islandmagee and the magnificent Glens of Antrim.
Key attractions along the route are Carrick-a-Rede rope bridge, swinging 80 feet above the waves, the world's oldest licensed whiskey distillery at Bushmills and the castles of Carrickfergus and Dunluce. Visitors can enjoy the seaside delights of Portrush and Portstewart, craft and antique shops, restaurants and pubs, traditional music and contemporary arts.
The trail can be travelled in whole or in part. Individual travellers can select the routes and attractions that appeal to them, based on see-at-a-glance guides.
