THAILAND PROMOTES
HOM MALI (JASMINE) RICE

A delegation of 18 Thai exporters visited Toronto, Canada, this month, to promote Thai Hom Mali (Jasmine) rice. Grown in Northeast Thailand, Thai Hom Mali rice is the world's only indigenous rice with a natural aromatic fragrance. In Thai, hom means fragrant and mali means jasmine.

His Excellency Snanchart Devahastin warned consumers about imitation jasmine rice. Packages of genuine Thai Hom Mali Rice carry a circular green and gold logo of certification from the Department of Foreign Trade.

Thailand is one of the top three rice exporters in the world. One quarter of its yearly exports of five to six tons is Thai Hom Mali rice. Canada imports 50,000 tons of Thai Hom Mali rice annually. Visitors can request jasmine rice in the more than 100 Thai restaurants in the Toronto area.
