BOSTON TOURS OF TV SHOW AND MOVIE LOCATIONS

Boston Movie Tours offers walking and bus tours of television show and film locations in the capital city of Massachusetts. Participants visit movie sets like the L Street Tavern in Good Will Hunting and learn Hollywood movie trivia.

Boston film locations

Boston has served as a film location for nearly 400 movies and TV shows. From box office blockbusters such as The Departed, Fever Pitch, Mystic River, Legally Blonde, The Fighter and Good Will Hunting, to classics like The Verdict and The Thomas Crown Affair, Boston has been the setting for some of Hollywood's most memorable films.

Boston backdrops also appear in television shows like Cheers, Ally McBeal, The Practice, Boston Legal and Crossing Jordan.

Walking tours

On Boston Movie Mile Walking Tours, visitors see Boston Movie Mile, the most filmed area of Boston, Massachusetts. More than 30 recognizable filming locations are located in the Beacon Hill area.

Covering about 1.25 miles over 1.5 to two hours, Boston Movie Mile Walking Tours allow movie buffs to walk in the same steps as their favorite actors and actresses. Hollywood experts entertain walkers with behind-the-scenes movie insider information.

The Boston Movie Mile Walking Tour ends at the Bull & Finch Pub, the inspiration for the Cheers TV series.

Tour cost

Tours meet at the Boston Common Visitors Center (address: 147 Tremont Street), next to the Park St. MBTA stop. Reservations are strongly recommended. Walking tours are limited to 15 guests to maximize the interactive movie tour experience.

Tours begin at 2:30 pm on weekends in April and May. June through August Boston movie walking tours are also held on Fridays. In September and October, walking tours are on Saturdays only.

Boston Movie Mile walking tours cost US$24.

Boston bus tours

Boston TV and Movie Bus Tours visit more than 40 movie film locations and television show sites in three hours. Participants visit movie filming locations, including Boston Common, State House, Beacon Hill, Public Garden, the Athenaeum and North End.

What times do Boston TV and Movie Bus Tours run? Tours depart at 11 am from Boston Common, year-round on Saturdays in January through March and September through December.

TV and Movie Bus tours cost $40 and run on Sundays in April, May, September, October and on Thursday to Sunday from June through August.

Participants of both Boston Tours see the park bench from Good Will Hunting, the street where the Blown Away runaway car crash occurred, the building where Boston Legal and Ally McBeal were filmed and the building with the dramatic rooftop scene in the Martin Scorsese gangster movie, The Departed.

Boston film locations for The Departed include the Boston Common, South Boston, Chinatown, Charlestown, the waterfront, Quincy and Chelsea.
