BOSTON TOURS OF TV SHOW AND MOVIE LOCATIONS

Boston Movie Tours offers walking and bus tours of television show and film locations in the capital city of Massachusetts. Participants visit movie sets like the L Street Tavern in Good Will Hunting and learn Hollywood movie trivia.

Boston film locations

Boston has served as a film location for nearly 400 movies and TV shows. From box office blockbusters such as The Departed, Fever Pitch, Mystic River, Legally Blond and Good Will Hunting, to classics like The Verdict and The Thomas Crown Affair, Boston has been the setting for some of Hollywood's most memorable films.

Boston backdrops also appear in television shows like Cheers, Ally McBeal, The Practice, Boston Legal and Crossing Jordan.

In 2008, Boston visitors can spot movie-makers filming The Fighter with Mark Wahlberg and Brad Pitt.

Walking tours

On Boston Movie Mile Walking Tours, visitors see Boston Movie Mile, the most filmed area of Boston, Massachusetts. More than 30 recognizable filming locations are located in the Beacon Hill area.

Covering about 1.25 miles over 1.5 to two hours, Boston Movie Mile Walking Tours allow movie buffs to walk in the same steps as their favorite actors and actresses. Hollywood experts entertain walkers with behind-the-scenes movie insider information.

The Boston Movie Mile Walking Tour ends at the Bull & Finch Pub, the inspiration for the Cheers TV series. Walking tour participants receive 15 per cent discounts on post-tour drinks, if they book the tour online.

Tour cost

Tours meet at the Boston Common Visitors Center on 147 Tremont Street, next to the Park St. MBTA stop. Reservations are strongly recommended. Walking tours are limited to 15 guests to maximize the interactive movie tour experience.

Tours begin at 2 pm in May (Friday to Sunday), June through September (Friday to Monday) and October weekends.

Boston Movie Mile walking tours cost U.S. $20 for adults, $17 for seniors, teenagers and students and $10 for children, ages 6 to 12.

Bus tours

Theater-on-Wheels mini coach tours last two to 2.5 hours. Participants visit movie filming locations, including Boston Common, State House, Beacon Hill, Public Garden, the Athenaeum and North End.

Theater-on-Wheels tours cost $35 for adults.

Participants of both Boston tours see the park bench from Good Will Hunting, the street where the Blown Away runaway car crash occurred, the building where Boston Legal and Ally McBeal were filmed and the building with the dramatic rooftop scene in the Martin Scorsese gangster movie, The Departed.

Boston film locations for The Departed include the Boston Common, South Boston, Chinatown, Charlestown, the waterfront, Quincy and Chelsea.
