CULTURAL ACTIVITIES AND FESTIVALS HIGHLIGHT
CELEBRATE BELFAST 2006 IN IRELAND

When Cork's year as European Capital of Culture ends, Celebrate Belfast begins 15 months of cultural celebrations, from October 2005 through December 2006.

Mr John Walsh, Marketing Director Belfast Visitor & Convention Bureau, says that Belfast 2006 will showcase the city's vibrant cultural diversity with the $7.5 million project.

A major gateway to Ireland, Belfast will feature artistic, historical, civic, music and sporting events. Belfast's vibrant festivals include Belfast Festival at Queens, Cathedral Quarter Arts Festival, Titanic, Feile An Phobail, the Commonwealth Fencing Championships, Special Olympics National Games and the 25th anniversary Belfast City Marathon.

While the main event will be the centenary of Belfast City Hall, built in 1906, the purpose of Celebrate Belfast 2006 is to showcase the city as an international cultural destination with 300 cultural and sports events, activities and festivals.
