The InterContinental Resort and Thalasso Spa Bora Bora has eighty luxury huts on stilts over Bora Bora's azure lagoon. Each bungalow features more than 1,000 square feet of space. The spacious villas have both modern-chic and Polynesian decor, including kohu wood.
Located on a motu (islet) east of the main island, the InterContinental offers beautiful views of Mt. Otemanu. The resort has a wedding chapel, helicopter landing pad, tennis court, two bars and a white sand beach.
To preserve the pristine French Polynesian environment and natural beauty, the resort uses ocean-powered air conditioning. The hotel pumps near-freezing water from great ocean depths to provide its air conditioning, saving more than 90 per cent of the electrical power usually required. This unorthodox, but environmentally friendly method of air conditioning was pioneered by the late Marlon Brando, who owned his own atoll near Tahiti.
On the southern tip of the main island of Bora Bora, the InterContinental Le Moana Resort Bora Bora also has overwater bungalows, a swimming pool, restaurant and bar.
