Three Vancouver Island hotels were ranked among the top five properties by Travel & Leisure magazine in the 11th annual World's Best Awards readers' survey of The Best in the Continental US and Canada.
The Aerie Resort won first place, Sooke Harbour House, second, and the Wickaninnish Inn closely followed at fifth place. All but one of the top ten hotels were small, with fewer than 100 rooms.
The Aerie Resort
A Mediterranean-style resort and spa, The Aerie is located at the gateway to the Cowichan Valley, a rich agricultural region just north of Victoria, British Columbia. Noted by the Travel & Leisure survey, is the stunning, secluded location, with 180-degree views of the Cascades and the Olympics.
Sooke Harbour House
Overlooking a dramatic Pacific beach and the Olympic Mountains, 45 minutes from Victoria, Sooke Harbour House has 28 individually appointed suites. The cutting edge stated in the Travel & Leisure survey is Chef Edward Tuson's inventive Pacific Northwest cuisine.
Wickaninnish Inn
Located on a rocky promontory on the west coast of Vancouver Island, between the coastal rainforest and the Pacific Ocean, Wickaninnish Inn offers casual elegance. Travel & Leisure notes that the Dungeness crab cookout on Chesterman Beach is a not-to-miss experience.
In the survey of Travel & Leisure magazine subscribers, respondents rated hotels on rooms/facilities, location, service, restaurants/food, and value.
