Two new restaurants opened at Festival Bay Mall, on International Drive, in the fall. Bergamo's Italian Restaurant seats 300. Talented singing waiters serve pasta, seafood and Angus steak.
Cricketers Arms English Pub & Eatery, which seats 170, offers an authentic English menu and live entertainment. Both restaurants relocated from their former locations in the Mercado Shopping Center.
At Pointe Orlando, two new dining facilities opened this winter. Taverna Opa serves authentic Greek cuisine à la carte and family-style to 300 diners. The Grape is an upscale wine store combined with a wine bar that serves small-plate gourmet fare. The restaurant seats 160.
These restaurants will join The Oceanaire, Tommy Bahama's Tropical Café & Emporium, Maggiano's Little Italy and B.B. Kings Blues Club, which will open during the winter. The Capital Grille opened last year and seats 373.
Bubba Gump Shrimp Co. opened at Universal CityWalk last July. The 474-seat restaurant replaced Decades Café Arcade, near the entrance to Universal CityWalk. Signature menu items include "Bucket of Boat Trash," (deep-fried tender shrimp, lobster and mahi mahi), Cajun spiced mahi mahi with bourbon sauce, shrimp served over mashed potatoes and Southern fried shrimp.
Testa Rossa Caffé Orlando, in the Shoppes at the Mall at Millenia, introduced a cheese and wine flight menu, with cheeses from around the world, fruit plates and a variety of wines. The restaurant seats 73. Timpano Chophouse and Martini Bar underwent a $1 million renovation to build Starlight Lounge, with the look and feel of Chicago's legendary Big Band-era nightclubs. The bar features a drink menu with 32 original martinis and 40 wines sold by the glass. The seating capacity is 120 for the lounge and 600 for the restaurant.
Walt Disney World Swan and Dolphin resort opened Picabu, a new restaurant that seats 100. The buffet/cafeteria-style restaurant serves affordable food 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
The Boheme restaurant, at the Grand Bohemian hotel, Christini's and the Citrus Club were inducted into the Nation's Restaurant News' 2006 Fine Dining Hall of Fame. Criteria for the award include long-standing excellence in food quality, service, ambiance and leadership in staff training and motivation.
