World Weather
World Maps

Every November 11, the capital of Canada honors more than 1.5 million Canadians, who have served around the world, as soldiers or peacekeepers, over the past 100 years. More than 116,000 Canadian soldiers have died in conflicts and wars, while serving their country.

Visitors to Ottawa, Ontario, can attend Remembrance Day ceremonies and activities every year. Veterans' Week events honor men and women who served in the Canadian Forces.

National Remembrance Day Ceremony

At the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month, visitors and locals join the Prime Minister, the Governor General and many veterans, as they commemorate Canada's sacrifices in war.

Organized by the Royal Canadian Legion, the moving ceremony takes place at the National War Memorial.

Beechwood Cemetery

A Remembrance Day ceremony is held at Beechwood Cemetery at 11 am on November 11. The national historic site is the National Military Cemetery of the Canadian Forces and the Royal Canadian Mounted Police.

Canadian War Museum

Located on LeBreton Flats, near the Ottawa River just west of downtown Ottawa, the Canadian War Museum showcases Canada's military past.

Visitors to the Canadian War Museum, on or around Remembrance Day, will see the Afghanistan: A Glimpse of War exhibit, which runs until April 27, 2008.
