World Maps
At McArthur-Burney Falls Memorial State Park, in the Shasta Cascade, California State Parks has installed 24 new family-style cabins. The comfortable cabins are located adjacent to the 129-foot waterfall that Teddy Roosevelt called one of the wonders of the world.
The innovative cabins offer first-time visitors the opportunity to try outdoor camping. The heated and insulated cabins encourage visitors to camp year-round. For senior citizens and disabled people, the accessible accommodations are ideal.
Campers bring their own bedding, food and cooking gear. The cabins do not contain bathrooms or cooking facilities, so are for sleeping only. Washrooms and showers are in several locations around the campground. Each cabin site has a picnic table and an outdoor barbeque pit for cooking.
Dean Creek Resort cabins
On California's North Coast, the Dean Creek Resort has six new cabins. Located in Redway, along the banks of the Eel River in southern Humboldt County, the cabins are close to the Avenue of the Giants and a good base for exploring the redwoods.
The recently opened cabins each have a porch, bathroom, stove, microwave, fridge and TV and DVD. Four people can comfortably sleep in the queen bed and queen sofa bed in the cosy wooden buildings.
Dean Creek Resort opened in 1937. The award-winning, family-operated resort also has 64 RV sites with hookups, picnic tables, barbecue grills and fire rings, motel accommodations and nearby fishing, rock hunting and hiking through the redwoods.
Nature's Cottages
Creekside Inn and Resort in Guerneville, California, has added 12 new eco-friendly Nature's Cottages to its existing six inn rooms and 10 cottages. The family-friendly nature venue is located in the Russian River resort area of Sonoma County, on the North Coast.
Built high in the redwood trees, Nature's Cottages have views of the creek or pool yard. The environment-friendly buildings have double-panel, Low E brand windows and solar energy.
The cottages have private decks, full kitchens and cedar log furniture. Creekside Inn and Resort practices water conservation and uses only nontoxic cleaning and gardening products, renewable energy and reusable and recyclable guest amenities.
