Indian, Chinese and Malay dishes are popular. Try satay (barbecued meat on a stick with sweet and spicy peanut sauce), murtabak (griddle-fried pancakes stuffed with minced beef, egg and onion, served with curry), rojak (salad with bean-sprouts, shredded cucumber, hard boiled egg, prawn fritters and spicy peanut sauce), cendol (shaved ice with coconut milk, green noodles and palm syrup).
Shopping Specialties:
Pewter, batik, silverware, bamboo-ware, baskets, pottery: scarves, sashes, placemats and sarongs, made from songket (fabric woven with gold thread), miniature kites and traditional drums, Iban shields and blowpipes.
