The county of Somerset in southwest England celebrates October with three culinary festivals.
South Somerset Food Festival, featuring more than 40 events, highlights the fresh local produce available in this rural area, with tastings, tours and farm walks.
Exmoor Food Festival includes a day at Hindon Organic Farm, an Indian cookery demonstration, bread-making and Safari Suppers, based around Exmoor National Park.
Mendip Food & Drink Festival encompasses the five Mendip towns of Shepton Mallet, Frome, Wells, Glastonbury and Street and involves restaurants and hotels offering special menus made from local produce.
Somerset is the home of cheddar cheese, still produced in the Mendip Hills, and plentiful apple orchards. For centuries, their apples have been pressed into cider.
